Size up when in doubt. A legging that's a size too small creates visible tension lines across the hips and thighs, and the waistband will fold or roll down throughout the day rather than sitting flat. Sizing up gives you the right compression — supportive without feeling restrictive — and the waistband sits cleanly. These aren't so loose when sized up that they look baggy; the fabric has enough recovery to stay fitted.
The fleece weight sits at around 280–300gsm — warm enough to be genuinely useful in cool weather (comfortable to about 5°C without layering underneath) but not so thick that the legs look bulky under the outer fabric. The interior brushed surface holds heat without feeling clammy, which cheaper fleece does after about an hour of wear. Below 0°C you'd want thermal leggings underneath. The outer face is smooth rather than textured, which keeps the look clean and prevents surface pilling from friction with other.
These are well-suited to pear and hourglass shapes. Size to your hip measurement: the hip and thigh fit is fixed, the waist can be adjusted with a belt or taken in slightly if needed. For a pear shape, the most common issue with non-stretch bottoms is the gap at the back waistband when the hips are larger relative to the waist — a belt solves this quickly. The key measurement to get right is the thigh circumference, not the waist: if the thigh fits comfortably, the rest of the sizing logic follows.
Washing inside-out on a cold, gentle cycle is the single most effective step — it protects the outer face of the fleece from friction against other garments, which is the primary cause of surface pilling. Tumble dry on low rather than high heat; high heat melts the synthetic fibers in fleece and makes pilling permanent rather than preventable. Avoid fabric softener — it coats fleece fibers and gradually reduces their thermal performance.
The top you wear is what determines whether leggings read as athleisure or casual-everyday. A cropped athletic top signals gym; a longline cardigan, structured blazer, or oversized coat signals intentional casual. For a polished result: high waist leggings + tucked-in fitted blouse + clean loafers or ankle boots. The high waistband doing visible work above a tuck-in top looks considered rather than lazy.
At 5'8" the standard inseam on most styles hits just at or slightly above the ankle, which reads as a deliberate cropped length rather than too-short. At 5'10"+ there's usually a 3–5cm gap between the hem and the floor, which looks intentional in wide-leg or jogger styles but can look abruptly short in straight-leg or formal styles. The practical answer: check the listed inseam length against your body measurement (floor to hip) minus the rise, and if the result is under your inseam length, the pants will work.
